A 17 year old girl was reportedly lured and sexually assaulted by the son of a village chief, leading to a family’s outcry for justice in a case that has stirred up the local community. Despite attempts at hushing the matter with monetary compensation, the family remains resolute in their pursuit of legal action.

In the small community of Huai Thalaeng in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, a disturbing incident has come to light, raising serious concerns about the safety and justice for young individuals. On April 9, during the festive period of Songkran, a teenage girl became the victim of a heinous crime perpetrated by an individual in a position of local power, which has since led to increased tension and fear in the area.

The case unfolded when the girl’s mother stepped forward at the Northeastern Lower Regional Office of the National Rights Organisation today, April 24. She was there to lodge a complaint against the son of a respected village chief, who is also a village-based police inspector, for the alleged assault of her 17 year old daughter.

The mother’s fear was palpable, heightened by the suspicious motorcycles that had started to loom ominously around their home, with strangers pointing and taking photos, seemingly in intimidation.

The story began innocently enough, with the girl engaging in conversations with the young man on Facebook. But what started as casual messaging took a dark turn when they decided to meet in person. It was during this encounter that the girl was forced to have sex against her will, leaving her traumatised and initially too ashamed to share her ordeal. However, the perpetrator’s audacity to reach out to her again on Facebook exposed his actions, reported KhaoSod.

Upon learning of her daughter’s assault, the mother promptly filed a police report on April 10, the day after the incident.

In a twisted turn of events, the village chief, upon discovering his son’s actions, attempted to squash the issue by offering the family 30,000 baht (US$800) in exchange for their silence and to avoid any legal repercussions. The family, adamant in their quest for justice, rejected the offer and vowed to see the case through to the end.
