Police bust gang smuggling Chinese nationals into Bangkok

Police yesterday apprehended a gang involved in smuggling Chinese nationals into Bangkok for work.
The group was intercepted yesterday, March 12, at the border in Tak province, with the driver receiving a fee of 6,500 baht for his services.
Police Major General Khongkrich Loetsitthikul instructed Police Colonel That Phosuwan, Police Lieutenant Colonel Supakorn Tangkaprasert, and Police Lieutenant Colonel Akkarawut Chanchareon to arrest 31 year old Chittikorn for illegally transporting foreign nationals into Thailand and providing them with shelter to evade capture.
Additionally, five Chinese nationals were detained for entering the country without permission. The arrests took place along the inbound Asian Highway in Khlong Chik subdistrict, Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.

Police became suspicious when patrol officers noticed two pickup trucks behaving suspiciously while travelling on the highway towards Bangkok. The vehicles were signalled to stop for inspection.
Upon examination, seven Chinese nationals were discovered hiding inside the two vehicles. Checks revealed that five of them had entered the country illegally, while two had legal entry documents.
Consequently, Chittikorn and the five people without valid entry permits were detained for further questioning.
During questioning, Chittikorn admitted he was contacted by a friend to pick up the Chinese nationals from Tak province and transport them to Bangkok, for which he was paid 6,500 baht (US$192). He acknowledged knowing that the suspects were illegally smuggled into the country.
Interrogation of the five Chinese nationals, conducted through an interpreter, confirmed they had entered Thailand illegally through natural border channels and crossed into Mae Sot district, Tak province, reported KhaoSod.
They were then guided to the vehicles to continue their journey to Bangkok in search of employment. The group has been handed over to the investigative officers of Immigration Division 3 for legal proceedings.
