A couple from Lad Yao district in Nakhon Sawan province has fallen victim to a scam involving the sale of a eucalyptus plantation. Supakorn Tamatalong and his wife, Somporn Kamtalong, discovered their 20-rai eucalyptus plantation had been completely cleared.

They agreed to sell the land for 80,000 baht (US$2,314), at a rate of 4,000 baht (US$115) per rai, to a female broker whose name remains unknown. The broker initially transferred a deposit of 5,000 baht (US$144) on October 24 last year. The couple had stipulated that the full payment was required before any trees could be cut.

Before the new year, the couple inquired about when the trees would be harvested but the broker repeatedly delayed, raising no suspicions at the time. On December 26 last year, they visited the plantation and saw the trees were still intact.

However, on January 14, they discovered the plantation had been completely cleared without their knowledge. Alarmed, they reported the incident to the Lad Yao Police Station, seeking assistance in tracking down the broker and those responsible for the theft.

A neighbour, Muai Thapthim, a 70 year old resident, recounted seeing vehicles entering and leaving the plantation on January 11. She assumed the owners had sold the land to contractors, noticing only the transportation of the trees, reported KhaoSod.

Currently, Lad Yao police are investigating, gathering information, and examining CCTV footage to identify the culprits involved in this fraudulent activity.
