Eight-year-old drives mum’s car to shop at Target in Ohio

Girl, 8, takes mum's car, drives to Target for shopping

Dashcam footage has surfaced showing an 8-year-old girl driving her mother’s car to a Target store in Ohio to go shopping. Bedford police revealed over the weekend that they located the missing child safe and shopping at Target. The girl had driven her mother’s vehicle for nearly 30 minutes on busy roads before reaching the popular retail outlet.

The incident began Sunday morning when authorities received a report of a missing child. As the investigation commenced, calls came in about “a small child driving east on Rockside Road,” according to FOX 8 Cleveland.

The dashcam video, captured from a personal vehicle, features a man calling the police to report a car “swerving everywhere” behind him. The vehicle, driven by the child, appears on the dashcam, with the man informing dispatchers, “It looks like a kid!”

Police found the car at Target with the girl inside shopping. The child admitted to officers that she hit a mailbox during her drive, which spanned approximately 10 miles from her home to the store.

Relatives were called to pick up both the vehicle and the girl, who is now safely back home, officers reported.

Bedford police humorously remarked on their Facebook page, “Well, I’ve finally found a woman in more of a hurry to shop at Target than my wife. More of a hurry by 8 years.” The post continued, “That’s right, an 8-year-old took mommy’s car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop.”

The police added, “Not sure what she bought, or if she was even able to use her Target app to save 5%. We did let her finish her Frappuccino. We’re not mean.”

Authorities informed FOX 8 that the girl is too young for criminal charges and expressed relief that no one was hurt.
