Imagine stepping into a realm where design meets comfort—this is a review of Metadee Concept Hotel. Spoiler alert: one of the best hotels in Phuket. To start, this relatively new Kata hotel is from a local brand, extremely stylish and filled with character. With atypical décor and architectural design, it’s an experience that intertwines diverse motifs, taking inspiration from abstract art, modern aesthetics, and natural materials; this could be felt from the very entrance of the hotel painted in the eye-catching vivid Red.

The Lobby: A visual check-in

As you enter the hotel, you’re greeted by an expansive lobby adorned with free-form hand-painted motifs, illuminated by soft, ambient lighting. The lobby is a dome shape, inspired by a seashell. Inside is a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, with bold colours contrasted by minimalistic furniture.

A welcome drink is served, made from cashew fruit (yes, the cashew nut we eat grows from the cashew fruit) from a local shop in Phuket called Methee, along with ice-cold towels to relieve us from the heat of the day. The check-in was smooth and very pleasant, and then we were escorted to the room.

We stayed in the Junior Suite with Pool Access on the ground floor. Hands down, the best pool-access hotel in Phuket. Here, we could feel that it was designed with the traveller’s space usage in mind, from the large bathroom, storage space, and the room layout. The smallest room starts at 54 sqm. Each room offers sweeping views of a long, winding pool, with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow natural light to flood in. The décor is understated yet chic, featuring neutral tones with pops of colour from artwork from local artists.

The experience: The longest pool in Kata

One of the hotel’s standout features is its 800-metre-long pool. This winding waterway was a lot of fun, with a full day of activities available at the hotel, including lazing around and free and paid activities such as water scooters, water polo, paddle boarding, and more. Whether you want to relax by the water or dive into fun-filled adventures, the pool area has something for everyone and the best part is you do not even have to leave the hotel! This is something you might want to keep in mind if you are planning a long stay in Phuket.

Location,

Situated just a 10-minute stroll from Kata Beach, the hotel offers easy access to the sun and sand. For added convenience, there’s a complimentary shuttle service to whisk you back and forth, ensuring you can enjoy the beach without any hassle. Night markets are surrounding the area too, so you can easily enjoy both the hotel and the beach, restaurants, and the outside atmosphere. Close to Big Buddha, Chalong Temple, Karon Beach, and the beautiful Sunset Viewpoint in Laem Promthep, you can stay here and easily tick off your bucket list of things to do in Phuket.

Best hotel gym in Phuket

Not everybody pictures themselves going to the gym on vacation, but for those who appreciate a great gym, this is a work of art. We were shown the fitness room, and it was the biggest fitness room, free of charge, in a hotel that we saw. It features an expansive 200 square metre gym, equipped with 30 machines a steam room, and personal trainers for Muay Thai, morning jogs, aerobic dancing, or yoga sessions.

Culinary choices

The hotel features three dining outlets with three different price points:

– Amethyst All Day Dining, located next to the lobby, offers a variety of international cuisines and Thai classics. This is also where breakfast is served in the morning.

– Himmaphan sports bar is located in the Phuket Resort and Villa “Concept” part of the hotel, where the price point is lower and perfect for catching the game while enjoying casual bites.

– The luxury rooftop restaurant, Moon Terrace Kata Rooftop Restaurant and Bar, with sunset views, and happy hours. The food is a truly pleasant surprise, from the variety to the quality of the ingredients. You can enjoy gourmet meals with breathtaking views and again very stylish decorations. One of the most romantic restaurants in Phuket for sure.

Sustainability

For a guilt-free vacation, we would recommend this hotel to those who would like to stay in a place that incorporates eco-friendly practices, from installing solar cells on every building to making their compost from food waste, recycling, and reducing the usage of single-use plastic.
