Phuket Cycling Fest peddles back into view (video)

PHUKET: The Phuket Cycling Fest returns for its second edition on March 28-29 with a weekend of cycling fun, including a 46km tour of the south of the island.

The event is being held to promote tourism by bike in Phuket, with the primary goal of tourists and cycling enthusiasts seeing new areas and places to cycle, while promoting the benefits of exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Phuket Town to take part in one of three challenges: a 70km ride north to the Heroines’ Monument, Thalang and beyond; a 26km southern route down to Chalong circle; and a 10km fun ride around the Old Phuket Town and over to Saphan Hin.

This year, cyclists will join a fun ride tour from Saphan Hin to Laem Promthep. After departing Saphan Hin Park at 6:15am, cyclists will head south along Chao Fa East Road, pass Chalong Circle and Rawai Beach and stop at Promthep Cape for a photo opportunity.

The return journey will see peddlers pass Rawai Beach and Chalong Circle, but continue north along Chao Fa West Road, before turning left and passing Wat Luang Pu Supha for a second photo opportunity at the Klong Krata Reservoir.

After a quick break, cyclists will peddle north again along Chao Fa West Road, turn right at the Wat Naka Intersection and then return to Saphan Hin, with a scheduled arrival time of 9:15am.

The outdoor bike festival will be held at Saphan Hin Park from 10am to 8pm on both days.

On show will be a range of activities with a huge variety of cycling products also up for grabs. There will be a Phuket City Bike Seminar and a bike collection on display, featuring folding bikes, vintage bikes, used bikes as well as a plethora of equipment and accessories.

Lucky draws will be held for special prizes, including vouchers for luxury packages from hotels, resorts and spas, and more.
