Annual Patong carnival to hit sands of Phuket

PHUKET: Patong’s annual carnival, this year themed “Blissful Beach @ Patong”, is set to hit the beach town’s sands on November 1, ahead of Phuket’s tourism high season.

The event, now in its 29th year, will take place from November 1-3, and aims to attract locals and tourists alike with concerts, a mini-marathon, a photography contest (story here) and a parade – the carnival’s highlight event.

The mini-marathon will take place on November 1, and will follow a seaside course from Loma Park to Tri Trang Beach in order to showcase the recently transformed beaches.

“We hope that this carnival will encourage tourists to come to Phuket,” said Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup.

“We expect more tourists to come this year, most of which will be happy with the results of the beach cleanup campaign. We are happy to have reclaimed the beach for the public.

“We want to maintain this image for Phuket’s future.”
