Prince Harry defiant in tense court battle against Daily Mirror publisher
In a tense courtroom encounter, Prince Harry and Andrew Green KC, the barrister representing the Daily Mirror publisher, engaged in a heated exchange during the Duke of Sussex’s legal battle against the newspaper. The prince appeared weary and emotionally drained as he faced questions about his personal life and past relationships, including his time with Chelsy Davy and the late Caroline Flack.
The prince firmly denied suggestions that the lack of phone data indicated he was not hacked by any Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) journalist. He also expressed his frustration with the defence’s claims that he was speculating, stating that the press has misled him and covered up wrongdoing throughout his life.
Harry cited the “abuse, intrusion and hate” that he and his wife, Meghan, have experienced in recent years. He also alleged that there was an “industrial scale of destruction of evidence” by MGN, a claim that the publishers strongly deny.
After seven hours of cross-examination, the prince’s lawyer, David Sherborne, asked how he felt. Harry responded with a simple, “It’s a lot,” accompanied by an uncomfortable smile and a flushed face. His voice cracked as he answered the judge’s follow-up question.
The trial is set to continue for over a fortnight, with the judge ultimately deciding on an outcome based on the balance of probabilities. As it is a civil case, the outcome may involve financial damages. However, for Prince Harry, it is clear that this case is not about money.
