Two men arrested for trafficking cannabis via taxi and public transport
Two local men have been arrested in Petaling Jaya for their alleged involvement in trafficking four kilograms of cannabis via taxi, e-hailing service, and public transport. The arrests took place on June 6 during two separate raids.
The first suspect, a 41-year-old taxi driver believed to be responsible for transporting the drugs in the Kelana Jaya area, was apprehended at 10.10pm. Upon further investigation, a bag containing four compressed pieces of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis wrapped in golden yellow and blue papers, was discovered.
An interrogation led to the arrest of the second suspect, a 29-year-old local man in the Kota Damansara area, believed to be the mastermind behind the drug ring. Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid shared these details at a press conference.
He added that the suspects would allegedly transport the drugs after receiving orders to resell them to other dealers. Their modus operandi involved using e-hailing and other public services to deliver the drugs. The confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth US$12,455 and could supply approximately 4,018 addicts.
Fakhrudin revealed that the first suspect had been involved in drug trafficking in the Kelana Jaya and Puchong areas for about three months, while the second suspect had been active in Kepong, Selayang, and Petaling Jaya for the past two months.
The taxi driver suspect has a record of 11 crimes, six of which are drug-related, while the other suspect has no previous criminal record. Both suspects have been remanded for seven days until June 10 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
