Teen goes missing in Kata waves

PHUKET: Rough weather continues to hamper search efforts for an 18-year-old man who went missing from Kata Beach yesterday afternoon, the Phuket Marine Police have admitted.
Boonchiaw Thongdonmuang, 18, was fishing with friends on a rock outcrop known as ‘Laew Fa’ when he was struck by a large wave and taken out to sea.
“We started our search yesterday, but had to call it off around sunset because of the bad weather,” said Sub Lt Prapan Chanprakon of the Phuket Marine Police. “We resumed our search this morning, but couldn’t take the dingy out because of the rough seas.”
So far, officials have yet to turn up any sign of Mr Boonchiaw.
“During the heavy monsoon weather, I would urge people to avoid sea activities; please wait until the weather is better,” the policeman advised.
