Readers call for charity for family of Phuket murder victim

PHUKET: In response to recurring suggestions from readers that a donation channel be set up to raise funds to help the mother and two young children of murder victim Wanphen Pienjai, the Phuket Gazette is currently working with a major, worldwide charitable organization to receive and administer funds.

We hope to be in a position to announce details of that arrangement soon.

Meanwhile, and in view of the financial inability of the victim’s family to pay for funeral arrangements (including, possibly, transportation of Wanphen’s body back to her home village in Petchabun), the Gazette has offered to receive donations and will ensure that the first 30,000 baht raised is turned over to Mrs Sa-ard Maliwan, Wanphen’s mother.

Any amounts in excess of 30,000 baht will be transferred, en toto, by the Gazette to one or more reputable local charities for needy local children, and a report of such transfer(s) will be posted on this website.

Donations should be sent to the following account:

Kasikorn Bank (K-Bank) Phuket Branch
Swift Code: KASITHBK

for account of:

The Phuket Gazette Co., Ltd.
Account number: 102-1-08662-9

Donors will remain anonymous, but we do require an email advice of your donation so that we can identify the credit to our account AS a donation. The message should go to and the subject line should read: “DONATION FOR THE FAMILY OF WANPHEN PIENJAI”. The message should simply indicate the date and amount of your donation and the country from which you are sending it.

Donors wishing an email ACKNOWLEDGMENT of RECEIPT of their funds by the Gazette must additionally provide us with the following Donor Information:

Full Name and Email Address
Amount Donated
Date Remitted
Name of Bank used for the Remittance
A faxed copy of the bank’s Remittance Advice (Fax: 076-615240)

The Gazette joins thousands of readers in Phuket and around the world in extending condolences to the mother and children of Khun Wanphen, and wishes to thank, in advance, donors for any contributions they may wish to make.
