Gazettes thrash Aussie Navy 31-15
PHUKET: The Phuket Gazettes rugby team was in fine form on Sunday when they met a team from the visiting Australian Navy ship HMAS Arunta for a 10-a-side clash at Dulwich College. Early in the game the Gazettes declared their intention to show the younger Australians how to play by opening the scoring. By half-time, they were ahead by two tries, with the score at 26-10. Hard tackles from both sides continued into the second half, but despite bruises, fatigue and flagging stamina, the Gazettes held onto their lead. For the home team, Sitthiha Singsuk scored two tries, while Vic Russell, Steve Wainwright, and Scott Useman scored one apiece. Paul Davis converted three. On the Australian side, David Goodwin went over the try line twice, while Lee Goddard also put one over. Phuket’s first Rugby Sevens tournament will take place at Saphan Hin on July 3 and 4, and will feature fourteen top international teams from Asia and Europe.
