“Due to the current air pollution, we would like to suggest that people not spend unnecessary time outside, as the air quality is now over the public safety standard. If you do have to spend time outside, please wear a mask,” said Krit Sakulpat, deputy chief of the Phuket Provincial Health Office.

There has yet to be any reported increase in the number of patients with respiratory problems seeking medical treatment on the island.

“However, we are closely watching people’s health during the current air quality situation,” Dr Krit said. “Anyone who feels sick is urged to see a doctor as soon as possible.”
