Burmese beaten to death, dumped

PHUKET TOWN: An unidentified man believed to have been a Burmese fisherman was found dead in front of the Fish Marketing Board’s refrigerated warehouse on Soi Si Sena just after midnight on Wednesday. “Motorbike taxi drivers witnessed a pickup truck with several Burmese in the back make a U-turn in front of the warehouse and then leave,” said Pol Capt Chaum Kaosrisuwan of Phuket Town Police Station. “After the pick up left, they noticed a man lying on the ground. But they didn’t go to see if he was alright because they thought he was simply drunk. It wasn’t until two hours later that they went to check on him and discovered that he was dead. Then they called the police,” he added. Police told the Gazette that the man had been beaten to death with a piece of wood or some other blunt instrument. He is thought to have died at least three hours before his body was found. The man is estimated to have been between 50 and 55 years old and was wearing a white T-shirt and gray shorts. Police also found a red jacket on the ground near the victim.
