Body found in pond behind Phuket temple
PHUKET: Police are attempting to identify the body of a man found floating in a pond behind Wat Saensuk, in Phuket Town, on Tuesday.
The body was spotted floating on the water’s surface by the owner of the nearby Soi Thong restaurant.
“I was at my restaurant feeding the fish in the pond when I saw what looked like a person’s feet. I looked closer to see if it really was a body, and then immediately called the police,” said the restaurant owner, who declined to be named.
Rescue workers and Phuket City Police recovered the body.
“The man was 40-50 years old, about 170-180cm tall and had dark skin. He was only wearing a black pair of shorts,” Lt Col Chaliew Tuyhu of the Phuket City Police told the Phuket Gazette.
“There were no signs of violence to the body.”
Police believe that the man died about four days before his body was found. The body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the cause of death.
“We will be in contact with all police stations on the island to see if there have been any recent reports of missing people,” Col Chaliew said.
