Belarus woman hospitalized in Phuket after slamming motorbike into tree

PHUKET: A Phuket tourist from the Republic of Belarus was injured on Friday night when she lost control of her motorbike and slammed into a pine tree close to Patong Beach at about 10pm.

“The accident took place at the entrance to Lai Mai Beach Resort. The injured woman was Yuliya Kavaliova, a 26-year-old. When we arrived, she was crying in pain because of injuries to her leg,” Patong Police Deputy Superintendent Nikorn Choothong said.

Ms Kavaliova was initially taken to Patong Hospital, but was transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket on the same night for more advanced treatment.

“Eye-witnesses said that Ms Kavaliova left the Holiday Inn intersection and was travelling at high speed when the accident occurred. She will be charged with reckless driving,” Lt Col Nikorn explained.
