Another stabbing in “Burmese Cemetery’

PHUKET TOWN: The body of a man believed to have been a Burmese fisherman was found floating in the water near Sri Sena Rd on Monday afternoon. The victim had been stabbed about 30 times. Pol Lt Col Tawate Pleumsuk, an inspector at Phuket Town Police Station, told the Gazette that the man was found by villagers floating face down in the water near the shore in the fishing port area. Investigating officers found nothing in the area to identify the victim, and believe the body floated there after being thrown from a boat offshore. Col Tawate said the victim, who was wearing only black underwear, had about 30 stab wounds all over his body, most probably inflicted with a sharpened steel reinforcing bar. Investigators estimate he had been killed at least two days before his body was found. This is the second murder in the so-called “Burmese Cemetery” this month. Last month, the bodies of four victims of similar vicious attacks were found in the area. So far, none of the cases has been solved. Four of the five previous victims remain unidentified.
