Phuket Gateway officially launched
The opening ceremony for the Phuket Gateway was held this morning (May 11) in Mai Khao, just north of the Thachachai Checkpoint. The ceremony was hosted by Phuket’s Governor Norraphat and Thalang District Chief Adul Choothong.
Governor Norraphat says “The government has been paying attention to locals in the area saying they want to generate more local income for tourists passing through the checkpoint area. The Phuket Gateway has been developed to link with mangrove forests and eco-tourism in the nearby area as well. A walk way 419 metres long is being constructed and Locals One Day Trip will be introduced.”
Mr Adul says, “The local tourism is focussing on eco-tourism and environment conservation, such as planting mangrove trees and increasing habitats and shelter for baby marine lives. Also kayaking, visiting lobster farms and flower crab farms are very suitable and popular for the area.”
“Pineapples are also very popular with many pineapple plantations nearby in the north end of the island.”
