PHUKET: Bangna Police have apprehended a woman and three men for alleged involvement in a series of attacks in Bangkok on anti-government rallies including a bomb attack at Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva’s Sukhumvit residence last night.

Thaworn Senneam, a core leader of the protests, said the suspects, who are now detained at Bangna Police Station, had supplied and smuggled weapons including bombs for the purpose of creating chaos during the “Shut down Bangkok” protest.

Mr Abhisit and his family were not at the residence at the time of the attack, which slightly damaged the gate. Police reportedly identified the bomb as big firecrackers.

The attack was the latest on rally leaders including Chuan Leekpai and Jitpas Kridakorn. Mr Thaworn claimed that the weapons smuggled by the four suspects were also used in the shootings at Hua Chang Bridge around midnight.

The shootings injured a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration garbage collector who was working behind Siam Discovery Shopping Complex and a woman. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital.
