Motorcycle crash with 18-wheeler claims life in Ayutthaya
A tragic accident unfolded when a young man and his girlfriend, riding a motorcycle, were involved in a collision with an 18-wheeler truck in Ayutthaya. The incident resulted in the death of the young woman.
Police officers and rescue teams were promptly dispatched to the location on Rojana Road in Bang Pa-in District after receiving reports of the accident.
The crash occurred yesterday evening, December 15, as reported by Thaworn Saengsai, a deputy inspector from Bang Pa-in Police Station.
At approximately 7.30pm, a motorcycle was struck by an 18-wheeler truck and a pickup truck in the Sam Ruean subdistrict.
The young couple had been on their way to the Yo Yot Ying Fa Festival, a celebrated event in the historical city of Ayutthaya, when the accident took place.
Upon arrival at the scene, police and rescue units discovered a Mitsubishi pickup truck with damage to its left rear side. In front of the pickup, a Honda Wave motorcycle lay on the ground, having been knocked over in the collision.
Nearby, the body of Su Rai Oo, a 25 year old Myanmar national, was found. She had suffered severe head injuries, and the impact had scattered her remains across the road.
A short distance away, about 20 metres from the scene, the 18-wheeler Isuzu truck was parked. The right rear tyre bore marks indicating it had run over the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, 26 year old Kei Min Shu, who was also Su Rai Oo’s boyfriend, was found injured on the pavement.
Although his injuries were minor, he was visibly distressed and unable to communicate in Thai. Through an interpreter, it was revealed that both individuals worked at a furniture factory in Wang Noi district and were on their way to enjoy the festival in Ayutthaya.
Sideswiped
Kei Min Shu recounted the moments leading up to the accident, stating that they were attempting to overtake another vehicle when they were sideswiped, causing them to lose control and crash. Tragically, the truck then ran over his girlfriend, reported KhaoSod.
The driver of the truck, 26 year old Naruedon claimed he did not see the motorcycle before the accident. He expressed his deep regret over the unfortunate event, mentioning that he felt the truck hit something but was unaware of what it was until he stopped to check.
Meanwhile, 41 year old Sirilak, the driver of the pickup truck, recounted that she was waiting at a red light when she heard a scraping noise as the light turned green. She noticed the truck passing quickly and initially thought it was only a minor incident until she saw the motorcycle and the victim’s body in front of her vehicle.
Preliminary investigations using CCTV footage have not clarified the events due to obstructed views caused by the positioning of the bus and truck at the time of the accident.
Police plan to conduct thorough interviews with the injured parties, the pickup driver, and the truck driver to determine the cause of the accident and proceed with legal actions, if necessary.
The body of Su Rai Oo has been transported to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for an official examination. Police continue to investigate the incident to understand the full details of the tragic event.
