A monk wielding a sword caused a commotion in the Lad Ya area, Bangkok, late last night. Residents alerted the police, leading to a tense situation before the individual was taken into custody for questioning.

A startling incident unfolded yesterday, September 22, when a man dressed as a monk was seen walking in the middle of Lad Ya Road, brandishing a sword. The event, which occurred in the Khlong San district of Bangkok, was captured in a video clip posted by a Facebook page.

The post humorously suggested the monk might be reserving a spot for alms collection. However, the scene was anything but amusing for the locals who witnessed it.

Police officers from Somdet Chao Phraya station responded to the situation, arriving promptly on the scene. Chaipon Chancheua, a 33 year old volunteer with the Ruamkatanyu Foundation arrived at the scene to find the monk acting erratically.

Chaipon explained that he and his team were stationed at Wongwian Yai at around 1am when they received a report from concerned citizens about a man in monk’s robes carrying a sword. Upon arrival, they found the man standing in the road, sword in hand. Chaipon and his team immediately contacted the police for assistance.

As Chaipon and his team approached the man to detain him, he drew the sword from its sheath and tried to walk away. Police managed to subdue the man before he could cause any damage to property or harm the public.

The man did not speak when questioned and was subsequently taken to the Somdet Chao Phraya Police Station for further investigation.
