Hezbollah hides $500m in gold, cash under Beirut hospital

IDF reveals Hezbollah's $500m bunker under Beirut hospital, urges inspection

Israeli military officials disclosed that Hezbollah, a terror proxy backed by Iran, is concealing $500 million in gold and cash in a hidden bunker beneath a hospital in Beirut. This bunker was formerly managed by the group’s deceased leader. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), confirmed the Israeli Air Force is monitoring the vault under the al-Sahel hospital but has no plans to target it.

Recent weeks have seen Israel targeting the terror group following a year of Hezbollah attacks on Israel’s northern region, prompting many residents to evacuate. Hagari revealed that the bunker, intentionally placed beneath the hospital, contains over half a billion dollars in cash and gold. He criticised the use of these resources for Hezbollah’s benefit instead of Lebanon’s rehabilitation.

The IDF reported that the bunker, connected to the hospital, is equipped with beds, rooms for long stays, and space for directing operations. The site belonged to Hassan Nasrallah, the group’s leader who died in an Israeli airstrike in September. Hagari urged Lebanese officials to curb Hezbollah’s activities and inspect the site.

Hagari called on the Lebanese government, local authorities, and international organisations to prevent Hezbollah from using the funds for terror activities against Israel. Fadi Alameh, the hospital director, reportedly stated that the facility was being evacuated due to its proximity to Hezbollah assets, which the Israeli army plans to target.

The IDF also accused Hezbollah and Hamas of storing weapons and housing fighters in hospitals, schools, and other sensitive sites. Hagari detailed Iran’s financial support to Hezbollah, mentioning that Al-Qard Al-Hasan, Hezbollah’s financial arm, offers services to Lebanese civilians and pays the group’s operatives.

He explained that Iran’s Quds Force transfers money to Hezbollah from Iranian oil sold in Syria. Additionally, cash and gold are sent by plane to the Iranian Embassy in Beirut, which then distributes it to Hezbollah.
