Gambling tops arrest statistics again
PHUKET: September statistics released by Phuket Provincial Police show that gambling again topped the list, with 137 people arrested for the offense. Twenty-two cases involved the sale of underground lottery numbers.
Four murders were reported during the month with two cases solved, resulting in the arrests of two people. One case of attempted murder was also solved, leading to the arrests of three people.
There were 60 reports of theft and 25 people were charged with snatch-and-run crimes.
Three cases of rape were reported, with no arrests. All are still under investigation.
Sixty-five people were arrested for the illegal possession or use of controlled substances.
Forty-one of these were charged with possession and peddling of a total of 2,062.25 ya bah (methamphetamine) tablets. Thirteen were arrested for marijuana possession and one for use of the drug, while two people were arrested for possession of ya E (Ecstasy).
Eight people were arrested for other types of substance abuse, such as glue sniffing.
Fifty-two people were arrested for offenses related to prostitution.
Five motorcycles were stolen, with two people subsequently charged. Four cars were reported stolen, but with no arrests made to date.
