Swiss man despondent over health problems attempts suicide

PHUKET: A Swiss man despondent over several chronic health problems, including diabetes and asthma, cut his throat last night, but was saved by his wife.
It was his second suicide attempt.
Patong Police received a call at 10pm from a woman who reported that her 58-year-old Swiss husband had used a kitchen knife to slit his own throat.
“He did it in the bathroom at his house. Fortunately, his wife found out in time and called rescue workers,” said Lt Col Pratuang Polmana of the Patong Police.
“He got stitches in his throat and is still at the hospital,” Col Pratuang said.
The woman told the Phuket Gazette that her husband was depressed because of chronic health problems.
“He always worries because I have to work hard to earn money to pay for his medical treatment,” she said.
“I have been with him for four years. He tried to kill himself once before, but I saved him that time too,” she said.
