Greater Phuket Chapter for American Chamber of Commerce
PHUKET: The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM Thailand) has announced the formation of a Greater Phuket Chapter.
AMCHAM Thailand is the leading foreign business organization in Thailand and has recognized the surging economic importance and prominence of Phuket as Asia’s leading resort destination.
Established in 1956, AMCHAM Thailand now has over 660 member companies and almost 2,000 professionals including corporate representatives and individuals. Membership is international and includes a large contingent of non-American based companies as well as leading Thai groups.
AMCHAM member companies provide more than 250,000 jobs in the Kingdom and represent investments of more than US$35 billion.
Coordinating the Phuket Chapter are Bill Barnett, Managing Director of C9 Hotelworks, and John Magee, Publisher of the Phuket Gazette.
AMCHAM is one of 30 foreign chambers and business associations registered in Thailand. Accepting members outside of Bangkok was made possible by a recent regulation change in the Chamber of Commerce Act of the Ministry of Commerce.
Two months ago, a successful AMCHAM Thailand function was held at Laguna Phuket with over 140 local and Bangkok business people attending. Next year the Chapter aims to provide a key forum for the island’s leading businesses to work together in the ongoing development of ‘Brand Phuket’.
Membership in the new Phuket Chapter includes access to about 250 annual events, programs and meetings every year. A series of Phuket events will be held in 2011 to focus on major subjects relevant to businesses operating here.
