Alleged rapist dies in death plunge
THALANG: An alleged rapist died after being pushed off a second-story balcony in Cherng Talay by the boyfriend of the alleged victim.
Pol Lt Col Jessada Sangsuree, Inspector for Investigations at Cherng Talay Police Station, identified the deceased as Echa Bumrung, 31, a resident of Cherng Talay.
Echa celebrated New Year’s Eve by drinking beer with a group of four or five people, including a 20-year-old girl from Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai District, Col Jessada told the Gazette.
On the morning of New Year’s Day, Echa allegedly followed the girl back to her home, where she lived with her boyfriend, 36-year-old jet-ski operator Preecha Longlha.
As Echa was allegedly raping his victim, Preecha happened to return home and heard screams for help. In the ensuing fight, Preecha shoved the Echa off the second-story balcony, Col Jessada said.
Echa died of resulting head injuries.
Preecha told police he did not intend to kill Esa, and he didn’t think the fall would result in Echa’s death, Col Jessada said,
Preecha is now being held at Phuket Provincial Court, where he has been charged with murder.
