Phuket struggles to find new lifeguards

There are still no lifeguards applying for the job, according to the OrBorJor.

Following a meeting at the provincial hall today (October 3) OrBorJor Phuket representative, Satien Kaewpraprab, says that no one has applied for the lifeguard positions after an announcement of hiring for individual contracts.

He explained that the main reasons are that some of them do not have relevant certificates to apply for the job and some of them who have certificate are still hesitant. However, there are about 20-30 lifeguards that have offered to work as volunteers during the process of preparing a new contract for the island’s beaches.

Meanwhile, the Governor is urging the OrBorJor to rush the process as it’s an important matter and more lifeguard training is needed, for existing lifeguards and any new ones.

“As I look into this issue, I have found that we don’t have enough lifeguards on duty and there is only one company supplying lifeguards, making it difficult for us to negotiate with them. As I know, the OrBorJor already has the budget to train more lifeguards to get more manpower for this job,” said the Governor.
