A dramatic car crash in the Huai Khwang district of Bangkok has caused major disruption in the capital, with a vehicle ploughing into power poles and toppling more than ten, effectively blocking the road.

Local officials were forced to temporarily cut power to the area in the aftermath. The driver, 28 year old Asan, was discovered dazed and nursing minor injuries. Emergency teams whisked him away to the hospital, according to police reports.

Forensic investigators have been hard at work examining the wrecked car at Sutthisan Police Station, where they unearthed a shocking haul: 25 methamphetamine pills, a small stash of crystal meth, an 11mm handgun, and what appeared to be a bottle of kratom juice. While kratom is legal in Thailand, using it in drinks without FDA approval is a big no-no.

“Asan’s urine test came back positive for illegal drugs,” police confirmed, although the exact substance is still under investigation. The handgun, registered in Sing Buri province, is also being scrutinised, as Asan has denied any ownership. He claimed the car was borrowed from a friend, which is now under investigation too.

A search of Asan’s rented room yielded no illegal items, but his criminal past raises eyebrows. He has previous drug-related offences in Yala and Pattani provinces, along with a gambling charge in Wang Thonglang earlier this year. Sutthisan investigators are continuing to dig into the cause of the crash, leaving many questions unanswered.
