Princess to open tsunami aid HQ

PHUKET: HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will pay a Royal Visit to Phuket next week to preside over the official opening ceremony of her Special Task Unit (STU) building in Tambon Wichit on Tuesday morning.

The STU is dedicated to supporting the long-term recovery of tsunami victims in all six Andaman coast provinces. Funded jointly by Her Royal Highness’s Fund and the Thai Red Cross Society, the STU Building is the organizational hub for STU work in the region.

Its facilities include offices, a meeting room and laboratory. Construction began in July last year and was completed in December.

Princess Sirindhorn is scheduled to arrive at Phuket on Tuesday morning. During her two-day stay she will perform Royal Duties and visit tsunami victims on Koh Yao, in Krabi and in Phang Nga.

She will stay at the Cape Panwa Hotel.

The Phuket Provincial Authority has invited the public to welcome HRH along the appropriate routes. The ceremony at the STU center, at 5/3 Moo 2, Chao Fa East Rd, will start at 9 am.
