Phuket PIMEX gets down to business
PHUKET: The 2011 Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) is off to a flying start, with Jaguar selling one of their all-new cars and Derani Yachts selling a Monterey 298SS Super Sport on the show’s opening day.
Other deals inked include Phuket boat broker Lee Marine selling a 57-foot Jeanneau and a 33ft Fountain powerboat changing hands through a private sale.
Jaguar have confirmed other sales have been made, but have yet to confirm any details despite strong rumors of three more sales circling the marina.
The iconic automaker’s latest versions of the XKR and XFR are on display at the main exhibition hall, while the all-new XJ is on a floating dock in the center of the marina.
All three models are priced at more than 13 million baht each.
The show opened on Thursday to a packed in-water display and an exhibition hall brimming with marine products, luxury cars and high-end real estate.
A record 86 companies are exhibiting at this year’s show and 47 boats are berthed in the marina basin, 25 per cent more than last year.
Boat brands from all over the world, ranging from 30 to 87ft superyachts, with a cumulative value in excess of US$100 million, are on display, surrounding the all-new XJ Jaguar on a central floating dock.
“The first day was very busy with over 1,500 people visiting the show. Feedback from exhibitors and visitors has been very positive,” said Show Director Andy Dowden.
“The weather has been ideal, a little overcast and not too hot. If it stays this way we could well beat previous years’ visitor numbers,” added Mr Dowden.
PIMEX is open until 8pm tonight, and will continue from 11am to 6pm tomorrow.
Entry is free.
