Home blaze in Koh Kaew

KOH KAEW: A house near Muslim Wittaya Phuket School in Koh Kaew caught fire early in the evening of December 9, causing damages estimated at 500,000 baht. No injuries were reported.

Phuket City Police Duty OfficerPol Lt Somchai Noobun described the gutted dwelling as a one-story property in a small soi near the school.

He identified the homeowner as Amarin Phinyo, 29, who works transporting wood for Siam Koh Kaew Wood Trade company.

The fire started in the kitchen of the house at about 5 pm, while K. Amarin was asleep. He woke up when a cooking gas canister exploded, said Lt Somchai.

Called to the scene by a neighbor, firemen arrived and cut the electric power supply to the house before extinguishing the blaze in about 10 minutes, he added.

“About 70% of the house was destroyed, causing damage worth around 500,000 baht. We think the fire was caused by a faulty circuit,” he said.

Phuket City Police are awaiting a report from Phuket Forensic Police to confirm the cause of the blaze.
