Corpse found on garbage pile

KOH SIREH: The partially decomposed body of a naked man was found in a pile of garbage among mangroves near Plermsuk Beach yesterday afternoon. Police were notified after local villagers found the body, dumped face down in a pile of garbage 200 meters from the main road. At the scene, officers discovered that the man had been shot in the back of the head. A 9mm bullet was found lodged in the sand near the body, and a matching casing lay nearby. The victim’s clothes were not found. Around the body were tire tracks left by a vehicle that had apparently circled the body many times. Local residents told investigating officers that they had seen a pick-up truck that they believe might have been involved in the murder. Pol Capt Pin Inmak, of Phuket Town Police Station, today told the Gazette, “We think the victim was already naked when he was brought here in a pick-up. The murderer probably forced him to lie face down on the ground and then shot him. “We think at least three people were involved in the murder,” he said, adding that police do not yet have an idea about the motive for the killing. The victim is believed to have been dead for about five days. He was about 25-30 years old and 170 cm tall. He had a tattoo of an eagle on his right shoulder. “It’s very difficult to identify the body because there is no evidence to suggest who he was,” said Capt Pin. “The corpse was very swollen and soggy, and the skin had been blistered by the sun.”
