Chinese tourist drowns in Phuket

PHUKET: A woman in Phuket with a Chinese tour group drowned in Rawai on Thursday.

The body of 57-year-old Xianmei Wang was found floating off of Koh Hei at about 2pm that day, Chalong Police said.

Also known as Coral Island, Koh Hei is a popular destination for snorkelers and divers on group tours.

Police are uncertain of what factors led to Mrs Xianmei drowning.

Her daughter Jing Jing Lui arrived at the the Chalong Police station at about 11:00am today to inform officers that she would claim her mother’s body at Phuket Vachira Hospital morgue, police said.

Ms Jing Jing plans to have her mother’s funeral in Phuket, they added.
