Buckingham Palace has announced that the royal family will welcome a new baby in the spring. Princess Beatrice, 36, and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 40, are expecting their second child. The upcoming baby will join their three-year-old daughter Sienna and Mr Mapelli Mozzi’s eight-year-old son, Wolfie, who is Beatrice’s stepson.
To celebrate the news, the family shared two new photographs. One image shows Sienna, with blonde hair and a red bow, walking along a country lane holding hands with her father and big brother. She is dressed in bright yellow wellies and a blue waterproof suit adorned with cloud and bird patterns. Another photo captures a joyful Beatrice in a black puffer jacket, smiling at the camera while Mr Mapelli Mozzi embraces her.
The Palace stated on Tuesday that both families are ‘delighted’ and that the King has been informed. This announcement arrives during a particularly challenging year for the royal family, with the King, the Princess of Wales, and Beatrice’s mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, all having been diagnosed with cancer. Sarah received treatment for malignant melanoma skin cancer in January, following a mastectomy for breast cancer. However, Beatrice announced in May that her mother had been given the ‘all clear’.

Buckingham Palace’s statement read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together in early spring; a sibling for Wolfie, aged eight, and Sienna, aged three. ‘His Majesty The King has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.’
Beatrice, the eldest daughter of the Duke of York and Sarah, will welcome the Yorks’ fourth grandchild. The new baby, who will not hold the HRH title, will be 11th in line to the throne, moving Beatrice’s younger sister, Princess Eugenie, down to 12th place. This child will also be the 14th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth II and the second to be born since her passing in 2022, following the birth of Eugenie’s second child, Ernest, last year.
