Rogan warns Harris-Walz victory threatens free speech

Joe Rogan fears Harris-Walz win will stifle free speech and increase censorship

Joe Rogan issued a stark warning regarding free speech if Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, succeed in the November election, stating that the Democratic ticket threatens the First Amendment.

During a discussion with former Navy SEAL and ex-CIA contractor Shawn Ryan on his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience,’ released Thursday, Rogan expressed concerns over increasing censorship in the US.

Rogan asserted that censorship would intensify if Harris takes office, suggesting that similar controls imposed on Twitter would expand to other platforms. He highlighted that Harris has publicly advocated for uniform regulations across social media platforms, mentioning that Elon Musk might lose his privileges.

Elon Musk supported Rogan’s views on X, sharing a podcast clip and commenting, “Joe is absolutely right.”

In a 2022 podcast episode, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed that the federal government, including FBI members, had pressured Meta to censor content before the 2020 election. This influence peaked following exclusive reports on Hunter Biden’s laptop by The Post, which were censored on Facebook and X.

In 2023, the Twitter Files revealed the extent of federal employees’ impact on content moderation, particularly concerning the Hunter Biden laptop story. Rogan also criticised Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, in his Thursday podcast episode.

He pointed out Walz’s controversial statements about the First Amendment not applying to misinformation or hate speech, challenging this viewpoint by emphasising the amendment’s protection of free speech.

In a 2022 MSNBC appearance, Walz stated, “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech, especially around our democracy.” However, constitutional scholars affirm that “hate speech” is protected by the First Amendment.

Rogan’s critique of the Harris-Walz ticket follows his accusations against MSNBC for misleadingly editing a video to suggest he endorsed Harris. The outlet combined clips of Rogan speaking favourably about Harris and former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard to create this impression.

Rogan clarified on an August podcast that he had not endorsed Harris, criticising MSNBC for prioritising narrative over truth. He remarked that the network aims to influence public perception among less discerning viewers.

As of now, Rogan has not endorsed any candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
