Oregon nurse found dead, neighbour arrested for murder

Body of missing Oregon nurse discovered, neighbour charged with murder

The search for a missing nurse in Oregon, Melissa Jubane, has ended tragically with the discovery of her body and the arrest of her neighbour for murder.

Beaverton Police reported on Saturday that the remains of the 32-year-old were found after a three-day search, just weeks after her wedding to Bryan Llantero from Kalihi, Hawaii.

Relatives shared that the couple had been together for nearly ten years before marrying.

Bryan Llantero’s mother, Imelda Llantero, mentioned that the couple returned to the Pacific Northwest on 31 August, arriving early on 1 September following their 24 August wedding in Hawaii.

Imelda Llantero stated the couple spent Labor Day together before Jubane returned to work on 3 September. She attended her shift on the 3rd but did not appear for her morning shift on the 4th.

Jubane’s coworkers, friends, and family, who knew her as a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, grew worried when she missed her shift.

Officers visited her residence, and after searching the property, her disappearance was considered “unusual and alarming.”

“There was no Melissa,” said Imelda Llantero. “Her bag, wallet, and keys were gone, but her car remained in the parking garage.”

Attempts by officers and family to reach Jubane throughout the day failed as her phone was off, according to police.

Authorities determined that Bryce Johnathan Schubert, a 27-year-old neighbour in Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance following an extensive investigation.

Schubert was arrested and charged with Jubane’s murder, with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday, as per Washington County officials.

Beaverton Police expressed their gratitude to the community for assisting in the search and extended condolences to Jubane’s family, friends, and coworkers.

They also stated that further details would be withheld to maintain the investigation’s integrity.

Imelda Llantero shared that her son is devastated and has asked her to fly to Oregon to support him.

“I miss her,” said Imelda Llantero. “I’m glad Bryan met her. I told Bryan to always love her. They were very happy.”

Providence St. Vincent, where Jubane worked, issued a statement expressing their shock and mourning.

“Our hearts are broken at the news of the death of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague, Melissa Jubane. This comes as a shock to us all and she is mourned by her co-workers. Melissa was an exceptional nurse, committed to our Providence Mission and daily demonstrating our values of compassion, excellence and integrity,” the statement read.

The University of Portland School of Nursing and Health Innovations, from which Jubane graduated in 2018, also shared their condolences.

“The School of Nursing and Health Innovations mourns the loss of Melissa Jubane, a 2018 graduate. We send our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues for this unspeakable tragedy. She exemplified UP Pilot Nurse values, and the entire SONHI community will miss her greatly,” the school said in a statement.
