Linkin Park reveals new vocalist Emily Armstrong

Band returns with new vocalist and first single in seven years

Linkin Park has introduced a new co-vocalist following the passing of former lead singer Chester Bennington. During a live performance event on Thursday, 5 September, the band revealed Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara as their new vocalist. Colin Brittain, known for his work with G Flip, Illenium, and One OK Rock, will be joining as a drummer.

The announcement coincided with the release of a new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” marking the first new music from Linkin Park in seven years. This track is the lead single for their upcoming album, From Zero, set to release on 15 November.

This album is the band’s first full-length project since Bennington’s tragic death in July 2017 at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California. Linkin Park went on hiatus after his death. However, on 24 August 2024, they updated their website with a mysterious countdown leading to the current news.

The band will also embark on a new tour. Mike Shinoda, Linkin Park’s co-founder and co-lead vocalist, commented on their comeback, stating, “Before Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it is about past, present, and future—embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life. It was made with a deep appreciation for our new and longtime bandmates, our friends, our family, and our fans. We are proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years, and excited about the journey ahead.”

Fans have shown mixed reactions online, but many support the decision to have Armstrong join the group. One Twitter user remarked, “Emily Armstrong is actually a pretty great choice as a new vocalist for Park. I was a bit skeptical on Park adding a female vocalist but she sounds splendid live. Sounds close enough to Chester but different enough that it is not a shameless ripoff.”

Another commented, “People hated Adam Lambert when he first played with Queen; the exact same is gonna happen with Linkin Park. Overtime people are gonna come to realise that Emily is not taking over from Chester, she & the band are continuing the legacy. You’re just unnecessarily mad from nostalgia.” The world tour will begin on 11 September in Los Angeles.
