Final Grenfell Tower fire report released after seven years

Today marks the release of the final report into the Grenfell Tower fire, more than seven years after the tragedy. The 2017 blaze in west London claimed the lives of 72 individuals, ranging from an unborn baby to an 84-year-old woman. These are the stories of some of the victims.

**Anthony “Tony” Disson, 65**
Tony Disson, a retired lorry driver, lived on the 10th floor for eight years. His family described him as a “real family man” and “generous person” who always helped others.

**Ali Yawar Jafari, 82**
Ali Jafari lived on the 10th floor and tried to escape with his wife and daughter. He exited the lift on the 10th floor due to breathing difficulties and was later found dead. His family said he was “loved and will be greatly missed.”

**Abdeslam Sebbar, 77**
Abdeslam Sebbar, who lived on the 11th floor, died from inhaling fumes. His remains were found in his flat.

**Denis Murphy, 56**
Denis Murphy, who lived on the 14th floor, called his family during the blaze to say he was trapped. His family described him as an “inspiration” and “selfless caring person.”

**Zainab Deen, 32, and Jeremiah Deen, two**
Zainab Deen and her two-year-old son Jeremiah lived on the 14th floor. Originally from Sierra Leone, she was described as “beautiful and loving.” Her parents said Jeremiah “spent a moment in our arms, but will last a lifetime in our hearts.”

**Mohammad Alhajali, 23**
Civil engineering student Mohammad Alhajali lived on the 14th floor with his brother Omar, who escaped. Mohammad called a friend in Syria to say goodbye. He fled Syria in 2014 and hoped to return to help his country. His family said he “loved London and the people he met here.”

**Steve Power, 63**
Steve Power, who lived on the 15th floor, was reluctant to leave his two dogs. His children remembered him as a character who left an impression on everyone.

**Hamid Kani, 61**
Hamid Kani, an Iranian living alone on the 15th floor, was found on the 23rd floor. His family described him as “witty, compassionate, and devoted.”

**Deborah “Debbie” Lamprell, 45**
Debbie Lamprell, who worked at Opera Holland Park, lived on the 16th floor. She was described by her mother as “always smiling and helping others.”

**Marjorie Vital, 68, and Ernie Vital, 50**
Marjorie Vital lived on the 16th floor with her son Ernie. Marjorie was described as “joyful and kind-hearted,” while Ernie was remembered as “creative and loyal.”

**Joseph Daniels, 69**
Joseph Daniels, who lived on the 16th floor, reportedly suffered from dementia and could not be persuaded to leave. His son, who escaped, said the events of that night took his life.

**Sheila Smith, 84**
Sheila Smith lived on the 16th floor for 34 years. Active and well-respected, her family said she cycled and performed yoga until she was 80.

**Kamru Miah, 79, Rabeya Begum, 64, Husna Begum, 22, Mohammed Hanif, 26, and Mohammed Hamid, 29**
Kamru Miah and his family lived on the 17th floor. Due to mobility issues, all five members stayed behind and died together. They remained on the phone with relatives throughout the fire.

**Khadija Khalloufi, 52**
Khadija Khalloufi lived on the 17th floor and became separated from her husband in the stairwell. Her husband survived.

**Vincent Chiejina, 60**
Vincent Chiejina lived on the 17th floor and was identified by his DNA. His provisional cause of death was “consistent with the effects of fire.”

**Isaac Paulos, five**
Isaac Paulos, whose body was found on the 13th floor, was separated from his family during the fire. His family described him as “kind and generous.”

**Birkti Haftom, 29, and Biruk Haftom, 12**
Birkti and her son Biruk lived on the 18th floor. Birkti was described as “generous and caring,” and Biruk as “polite and kind-hearted.”

**Sakina Afrasehabi, 65, and Fatemeh Afrasiabi, 59**
Sakina lived with her younger sister Fatemeh on the 18th floor. Sakina was disabled and used a walking stick. Her family described her as “selfless.”

**Mohamednur Tuccu, 44, Amal Ahmedin, 35, Amaya Tuccu-Ahmedin, three, and Amna Mahmud Idris, 27**
Mohamednur Tuccu and his family were breaking their Ramadan fast with Amna Mahmud Idris when the fire broke out. They all perished.

**Eslah “Suhar” Elgwahry, 64, and Mariem Elgwahry, 27**
Eslah and her daughter Mariem lived on the 19th floor. Eslah’s remains were found on the 23rd floor, four floors higher than her flat.

**Mary “Sissy” Mendy, 52, and Khadija “Ya-Haddy Sisi” Saye, 24**
Mary Mendy and her daughter Khadija Saye lived on the 20th floor. Khadija was an artist whose work was exhibited at the Venice Biennale.

**Jessica Urbano Ramirez, 12**
Jessica lived on the 20th floor. Her family described her as “loving and kind-hearted.”

**Omar Belkadi, 32, Farah Hamdan, 31, Leena Belkadi, six months, and Malak Belkadi, seven**
Omar Belkadi and his family lived on the 20th floor. Omar, Farah, and their children Leena and Malak died, but their daughter Tazmin survived.

**Abdulaziz El Wahabi, 52, Faouzia El Wahabi, 41, Yasin El Wahabi, 20, Nur Huda El Wahabi, 16, and Medhi El Wahabi, eight**
Abdulaziz El Wahabi and his family lived on the 21st floor. They all perished. The family described Yasin, Nur Huda, and Medhi as lovable and kind.

**Logan Gomes, stillborn**
Logan Gomes was recorded as a victim of the fire. His mother, seven months pregnant, escaped but Logan was stillborn in hospital.

**Raymond “Moses” Bernard, 63**
Raymond Bernard, also known as Moses, lived on the 21st floor. He sheltered six people in his flat and died with them.

**Ligaya Moore, 78**
Ligaya Moore, from the Philippines, lived alone on the 21st floor. Her family described her as “jolly and bubbly.”

**Hashim Kedir, 44, Nura Jemal, 35, Yahya Hashim, 13, Firdaws Hashim, 12, and Yaqub Hashim, six**
Hashim Kedir and his family lived on the 22nd floor. They were remembered as loving and generous.

**Sirria Choucair, 60, Bassem Choucair, 40, Nadia Choucair, 33, Fatima Choucair, 11, Mierna Choucair, 13, and Zainab Choucair, three**
Sirria Choucair and her family lived on the 22nd floor. They all perished together.

**Marco Gottardi, 27, and Gloria Trevisan, 26**
Marco Gottardi and his girlfriend Gloria Trevisan lived on the 23rd floor. They moved from Venice to London four months before the fire.

**Hesham Rahman, 57**
Hesham Rahman lived alone on the 23rd floor. He had diabetes, making it difficult for him to walk downstairs.

**Mohamed Neda, 57**
Mohamed Neda’s wife and son escaped, but he was found outside the tower. He died from injuries consistent with a fall.

**Gary Maunders, 57**
Gary Maunders was found on the 23rd floor. He was believed to be with his friend Deborah Lamprell.

**Abufars Mohamed Ibrahim, 39, Isra Ibrahim, 33, and Fathia Ali Ahmed Elsanosi, 73**
Abufars Mohamed Ibrahim and his family lived on the 23rd floor. They all perished in the fire.

**Rania Ibrahim, 30, Fethia Hassan, four, and Hania Hassan, three**
Rania Ibrahim and her daughters lived on the 23rd floor. Her husband was away in Egypt at the time.

**Victoria “Vicky” King, 71, and Alexandra Atala, 40**
Victoria King and her daughter Alexandra Atala lived on the 23rd floor. They were the final two victims to be identified.

**Maria Del Pilar Burton, 74**
Maria Burton was rescued from the 19th floor but died in hospital in January 2018 due to complications.

The Grenfell Tower fire remains a poignant tragedy, with each victim remembered by their families and communities.
