TikTok influencer criticised for cleaning abandoned graves

A cleaning influencer known as ‘The Clean Girl’ has faced criticism after posting TikTok videos of herself cleaning graves.

She enthusiastically scrubs neglected graves, believing ‘everyone deserves a beautiful resting place.’ However, her actions have stirred controversy, with some viewers arguing that touching graves without permission is disrespectful.

In one of her popular videos, she comments, “Let’s clean a random grave. Who do you think is buried here? Let’s clean it and find out.” She expresses curiosity about the age and condition of the grave, noting, “It looks like it’s been here for 500 years. How did it get so dirty? Wow, there’s a tree growing out of it. I love plants.”

She continues, “This transformation was extremely hard for me, but I believe everyone deserves a beautiful grave. I did some research. A woman is buried here, and she has two brothers – like me.”

By the end of the video, the grave looks pristine. She even replaces the withered flowers with fresh ones. However, not all viewers were pleased with her efforts.

One comment read, “I don’t think it’s okay to switch the flowers because they are from a loved one as a symbol of love.” Another person agreed, “Cleaning is fine, but changing the flowers and removing other plants doesn’t feel right.”

A third added, “You shouldn’t take stuff away because it’s probably from a friend or family member, and you shouldn’t replace it.” Another viewer chimed in, “You have to ask family members before cleaning it.” Some even found her use of a vacuum disrespectful.

Despite the backlash, many found her actions touching. One user commented, “It might seem disrespectful, but imagine being a family member and arriving to a beautiful, clean grave. I’d feel so happy.” Another, claiming to be related to the person buried there, added, “Thank you for cleaning my grandma’s grave.”
