Nashville police capture wanted fugitive after year-long hunt

Nashville police use helicopter and spike strip to nab fugitive

Police in Nashville, Tennessee, have released a gripping video showing an officer tackling a fugitive wanted for murder, who had evaded capture for over a year. The incident relates to a crime that took place in August 2021.

Tyrone Walker, 30, was sought by the Metro Nashville Police Department for the murder of Cecil Holmes Jr., 39. In April 2023, Walker was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm as a felon. Detectives had been actively searching for him since the indictment.

Earlier this month, detectives received information that Walker was seen in a gold SUV in the Edgehill area. Utilizing night vision, police tracked Walker’s movements from a helicopter while officers on the ground set up a spike strip at the exit of a housing development.

The police shared a video of the operation on social media. The footage shows the SUV driving through the housing development and Walker exiting the vehicle and running when it reached the exit. An officer pursued Walker around several buildings before lunging and tackling him.

Before being apprehended, Walker discarded a pistol with an extended magazine. Walker was then processed, booked, and ordered to be held without bond pending a hearing.

Walker has a history of convictions, including aggravated burglary, theft, and cocaine possession. Two other individuals in the SUV with Walker were also arrested due to outstanding probation violation warrants.

The video clip received praise online, with several users commending the Metro Nashville Police Department for their efforts. One user commented, “That’s awesome!!! Go MNPD,” while another wrote, “Keep up the amazing work you’re doing.”
