Workers Party president arrested amid rising political tensions in Bangladesh

Rashed Khan Menon, the president of the Workers Party of Bangladesh, was arrested on a murder charge in Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Thursday. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed his arrest in a brief statement to reporters that evening, citing a murder charge filed at New Market police station.

Menon’s party was part of the 14-party alliance, which included the Awami League led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. During the Awami League’s administration, Menon held positions as the minister of civil aviation and tourism and later as the minister of social welfare.
