Thailand to buy 30 million booster Pfizer shots

Had your booster shot yet? According to Thailand’s Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the Department of Disease Control has signed an agreement to buy another 30 million doses of Pfizer vaccines, which will be administered as booster shots in the first quarter of 2022.

He added that Pfizer has given Thailand a special deal where the additional 20 million doses of vaccine with no deposit required can be purchased.

“Thailand will have enough vaccine in stock for 2022, as we have already purchased 60 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and will have approximately 20 million doses of locally manufactured protein subunit vaccine once it is approved by the Thai Food and Drug Administration. Thailand will have all types of vaccine available next year.”

The minister also mentioned a purchase of the second-generation Pfizer vaccine for children under the age of 12 if it’s developed in the future, and 50,000 courses of Molnupiravir, the world’s first oral medicine for the treatment of Covid-19 that can be taken as a tablet rather than injected or given intravenously.

As of today, Thailand reported 6,559 new infections and 63 new deaths.
