Phuket kindergarten students get head start on Mother’s Day celebrations
PHUKET: As Phuket gears up to celebrate HM Queen Sirikit’s 80th birthday on Sunday (August 12), which will also be honored as Mother’s Day in Thailand, Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (PPAO) President Paiboon Upatising yesterday led a Mother’s Day activity at the PPAO’s Sathit Ruam Pattana Kindergarten in Phuket Town.
“We are holding this activity to honor HM The Queen and to encourage children to appreciate their mothers’ kindness,” said School Director Jansuwan Tampanon.
“It also helps mothers and their children to get closer and helps mothers to see their children’s development,” she added.
As part of the activities, children created puang malai garlands to give to their mothers.
Accompanying the garlands were cards that were handed to the children earlier so they could write special messages to their mothers on them.
“Each child offered their mother a wai [pose with palms of hands pressed together and head bowed] then wiped their mother’s feet clean with a cloth as a way of showing their respect,” Director Jansuwan explained.
The activity was finished at about noon.
More activities are being held across the island this weekend to honor HM Queen’s birthday and to celebrate Mother’s Day. For a list of selected events, click here.
