House burns on Mae Luan Rd

PHUKET TOWN: Police are investigating the cause of a fire in a house on Mae Luan Rd last night. The case investigator, Pol Capt Surat Moangsri of the Phuket Town Police Station, told the Gazette he was alerted at about 6:30 pm that the house, number 17/27 on Mae Luan Rd, behind the Tessaban Plook Panya School, was on fire. Police and fire officers put out the flames within half an hour. “Fortunately, no one was hurt,” Capt Surat said. “The only person inside at the time was the owner, Anin Wassanawin, 65. She was downstairs when she saw a lot of smoke coming from the second floor bedroom.” Two bedrooms upstairs were destroyed in the fire which, police estimate, caused damage amounting to about 100,000 baht. Police forensic officers are currently investigating what caused the blaze.
