Mbappe informs PSG of exit plan amid Messi’s Inter Miami move

Kylian Mbappe, the French football sensation, has reportedly informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) that he intends to leave the Ligue 1 champions when his contract expires next year. This news comes from French sports newspaper L’Equipe and various international media outlets.

On Monday, it was reported that Mbappe, 24 years old, shocked the PSG management with his decision not to take up the option of a 12-month extension on his contract. This news follows Lionel Messi’s recent announcement that he will be leaving PSG for Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami in the United States. Now, PSG must decide whether to sell the young forward, who scored a hat-trick for France during their defeat by Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final, or let him leave the club for free at the end of his current deal in June 2024.

Previously, reports in France suggested that PSG was optimistic about extending Mbappe’s contract. The talented player was in a similar predicament last year when he was linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, but ultimately decided to sign a contract extension with PSG.

Real Madrid might now intensify their pursuit of Mbappe as they seek to strengthen their forward line following veteran Karim Benzema’s transfer to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, there is uncertainty surrounding the future of another PSG star, Brazil’s Neymar.

However, Mbappe’s potential departure would be the most significant loss for PSG, as he is a national icon in France and widely regarded as one of the few players capable of succeeding Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as football’s biggest star. Mbappe had hoped to help PSG secure its first Champions League title, but the team experienced yet another disappointment in Europe’s premier football competition. Manchester City ultimately claimed the title, defeating Inter Milan 1-0 in the final on Saturday.

During his time with PSG, Mbappe has won five French league titles and was a key part of France’s World Cup-winning team in 2018.
