Tiong King Sing retains PDP president post, Henry Harry Jinep new deputy

Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, has retained the presidency of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) for another three-year term. The decision was made during the party’s triennial general assembly. Tiong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, has held the position since 2016.

The deputy president post was secured uncontested by Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Tasik Biru State Assemblyman, after Marudi state assemblyman Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil withdrew his candidacy. Jinep, who also serves as the state deputy of transport, replaced former Mas Gading MP Datuk Anthony Nogeh, who did not seek re-election.

Penguang explained that he initially wanted to run for the deputy president position but decided to step aside for Jinep after considering various perspectives. He emphasised the importance of maintaining unity within the party and avoiding potential conflicts during the campaign.

“There is no point in fighting for the post as it will affect the stability of PDP as it is a small party,” Penguang said. He also expressed his desire not to be labelled as a person responsible for any break-up of the party.

Penguang declined the post of secretary-general but accepted the role of senior vice-president (I) of PDP. Meluan State Assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin was elected as senior vice-president (II). Vice-president positions were awarded to Alexander Asing Sadai, Krian state assemblyman Friday Belik, and Roland Ting Hua Sing.

Baram MP Datuk Anyi Ngau was elected as secretary-general, while Joshua Ting Fu Ying became the information chief. The triennial general assembly also elected 14 other ordinary supreme council members. A total of 600 delegates attended the three-day event.

David Yeo Ang Lim secured the position of Youth chief, and Angnes Jonep was named Women chief.
