Nature calls: Italian man denies public masturbation in Pattaya, blames UTI
An Italian man denied masturbating in public in Pattaya, claiming that he only took his penis out to urinate because he was suffering from urinary incontinence, a result of a urinary tract infection (UTI).
A Channel 8 female journalist sought help from Mueang Pattaya Police Station after she and her friend caught a foreign man masturbating on a beach near the Bali Hai Pier on Saturday, March 8. The foreign man reportedly sat on a rock near the LK Emerald Beach Hotel to get his rocks off.
The journalist and her friend informed the police that the foreign man followed them to the location and sat near them while they were relaxing and taking photographs of each other in bikinis.
They noticed the man masturbating and decided to record a video of him as evidence to support their complaint.
Police reviewed security cameras in the area and identified the suspect as 68 year old Italian national Carlo Barabucci, who was staying at the Naza Orchid Hotel on Pattaya Sai Sam Road. Barabucci was summoned to the police station for questioning.
Barabucci denied the allegations, insisting that he did not masturbate on the beach as claimed by the two women. He also expressed his anger by raising his middle finger at other journalists present at the police station.
Barabucci asserted that he was suffering from a UTI, which caused him to experience urinary incontinence. He claimed that he was unable to hold his urine and had to relieve himself on the spot, leading the journalist and her friend to mistakenly perceive him as a pervert.
Despite his denial, the Italian man was charged under Section 388 of the Criminal Law for public indecency, which carries a penalty of a fine of up to 5,000 baht.
This incident follows several other reports of public indecency last month, February. Two weeks ago, two men of undisclosed nationality were caught having sex on a footpath in Bangkok at night. One of them was half-naked, and the other was completely naked. Police did not pursue any legal action against them.
Around the same time, police officers in Bangkok intervened in a group sex incident involving six men at a public park. All of the offenders managed to escape the scene and avoid legal consequences.
Last month, another foreign man was caught engaging in explicit behaviour in Phuket. He was seen walking naked outside a convenience store. His identity remains unknown, and no legal action was taken against him.
