Yangon International Airport is poised to welcome more airlines and passenger this year as travel demand grows following Myanmar’s relaxation of entry visa requirements at the end of 2018.

The Yangon Aerodrome Company Limited, the company that manages Yangon’s international airport, says it’s increasing airport facilities and stepping up marketing to open new direct routes into the Burmese city.

The Department of Civil Aviation director-general, U Min Lwin, says efforts to ease visa regulations, last year, are attracted more Asian travellers, mostly driven by additional flights from China.

As of last month, 32 international airlines serve 30 international destinations from Yangon’s airport. Last year, the airport added two new airlines and five new destinations.

3.2 million international visitors travelled to Myanmar in 2018, 38% from China. It represented a 2% increase compared to the previous year.
