New IT course for Phuket

KATHU: Prince of Songkla University (PSU) is to introduce a bilingual bachelor degree course in Information Technology (IT) in the Faculty of Applied Sciences from June this year, says Asst Prof Puwadon Bootrat, Director of PSU’s Phuket Community College.

Prof Puwadon said, “There’s a lack of IT staff in Phuket now and this has been contributing to the high costs of operating IT businesses in Phuket.

“We need qualified IT staff to support Phuket IT City [a government project], and to improve the quality of IT in Phuket for graduate students in the future, too.”

The course has attracted overwhelming attention from students, with some 3,300 applications received for the 50 places allotted to students from the southern provinces of Thailand.

Another 30 places are allocated for normal, non-quota entry.
