Iran aims to enhance tourism exchanges with Thailand, as stated by its ambassador during an event celebrating Iran’s National Day in Bangkok on Tuesday, February 11.
Nassereddin Heidari, the Iranian envoy in Bangkok, highlighted that over 50,000 Iranians visited Thailand as tourists last year, establishing it as a favoured destination. Iran hopes to see this figure rise.
Tehran is eager for more Thai tourists to explore Iran, thus the embassy plans to organise promotional events to encourage Thai visitors. Concurrently, the government is actively promoting Thailand among Iranian tourists.
Recently, a tourism promotion event was held by the embassy, attracting around 30 Thai tour agencies.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Iran and Thailand. To celebrate, the Iranian embassy in Thailand and the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran will host events to honour this milestone and foster people-to-people exchanges.

Heidari noted that relations between the two nations date back approximately four centuries, when Persian merchants and scholars ventured to Siam, introducing cultural influences and valuable goods, reported Bangkok Post.
“Thailand holds significant importance for Iran. Consequently, we are keen to strengthen bilateral cooperation in cultural, political, and economic spheres, including tourism.”
In similar news, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra planned to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with China during her four-day official visit. The discussions will focus on fostering long-term investment partnerships in key sectors critical to Thailand’s transition towards a greener and more digital economy.
The government aims to enhance cooperation in the electric vehicle and semiconductor industries, alongside the development of data centres. These initiatives were highlighted by the prime minister during a recent Cabinet meeting, underscoring Thailand’s commitment to technological advancement and sustainability.
Security and tourism are also key priorities. the Thai premier instructed government agencies to implement stronger measures to protect foreign visitors and combat transnational crime syndicates, particularly call-centre scams that exploit Thailand as a transit hub.
Cultural diplomacy remains a significant aspect of the visit, with preparations underway for the arrival of two giant pandas from China, marking the 50th anniversary of Sino-Thai relations.
During the trip, the prime minister met President Xi Jinping for high-level discussions before travelling to Harbin to attend the 9th Asian Winter Games Opening Ceremony, hosted by Premier Li Qiang. She also met Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
